|For over a dozen years, it has been one of the pleasures of my life, to have been able to witness and work with, one of Canada’s great creative and cultural forces.|
David Bastedo is a Photographer based in Toronto, Canada and has been documenting The Tragically Hip both onstage and off since 2005 and has been making images since 1983.
His iconic images are instantly recognizable and help to tell the story of The Tragically Hip and Gord Downie; a truly Canadian Hero and Canada's band. Together and for over thirty years, they have captured the heart and soul of a nation and beyond.
David Bastedo's imagery of Gord Downie and members of The Tragically Hip have been featured in National Advertising Campaigns, Publications and News Organizations such as: CBC, CBC Music, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, The Financial post, Maclean’s, The New York Times, The Hill Times, Daily Mail, Billboard, ITunes, Apple Music, The Man Machine Poem Tour; the NFB film “Family Band,” the TIFF featured Documentary “Long Time Running,” “The Secret Path Live 2016” and the Juno’s.
Love and Admiration is the overarching title of the body of work that David is working on to tell this story; a story of Love and Admiration for a man, a band and a nation. The Exhibition titled: "An Abridged Exploration of Love & Admiration. Part 1. Gord." in effect is the beginning of the end.
